About
Welcome! I’m Carlee, and I am so glad you’re here. I am an American self-taught watercolor artist, constantly pulled from one creative endeavor to the next. My love for watercolor was born while I was living in Rwanda - when my Belgian artist neighbor invited me into her home for art practice on Tuesdays. Until then, I had never painted and, indeed, was somewhat biased against watercolor as a medium. That bias quickly turned into a passion and love for watercolor, as I found the uncontained movement of the water meditative and soothing, a sort of antidote to my innate desire for order and predictability.
I am a Foreign Service spouse - moving around the world with my family every few years. Thus far, I have lived in Cameroon, Mali, Sri Lanka, Rwanda, Germany, and Alabama. I am currently in Washington D.C., preparing to move to Honduras. Painting is my anchor - it is what I turn to when I need to turn everything else off and just be where I am. I am inspired by the beautiful world around me - landscapes, birds and other animals, and the abundance of mind-blowing art created by so many other artists. I hope you find some inspiration and beauty here.
